What is cod liver oil?
In Tübingen, Germany, drinking a glass of cod liver oil is the punishment for the loser at the traditional 'Stocherkahnrennen' (a punting boat race between universities). As uninviting as this sounds, it's not too far removed from the old days of taking a daily dose of cod liver oil by the spoonful at school! Cod liver oil is rich in vitamins A and D (great for a healthy sight and for supporting bones, teeth and the immune system) but it's probably most famous for its high concentration of omega 3 fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) which give cod liver oil additional health benefits for brain and heart.*
